Overview
The purpose of the Registry of Deeds is to record and preserve all land records in Knox County. The Registry is administered by the Registrar of Deeds.
Location
The Registry is located on the first floor of the wing of the Knox County Courthouse at 62 Union Street, Rockland.
Business Hours
The Registry is open to the public during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Recording Information

The Registry of Deeds requires the original document, which must be signed by all pertinent parties and properly notarized.

The cost of recording a deed is $16 for the first page and $2 for each additional page. There is an extra charge of $1 each for more than four names (grantor and grantee combined) for indexing purposes. There is also a fee of $13 charged for additional references (after more than one).

A Real Estate Transfer Tax form is required whenever a land transaction occurs. The transfer tax is determined by the amount at which the property is sold.

The recording fee for plans is $18.
Copies of documents and plans on record are available to the public for a small charge.

Documents from 1980 to the present are also available on line.
There is a fee associated with this service.
